Officer Transitions

Transitioning between leadership teams can be challenging but is vital for a healthy and thriving organization!

Strong transitions will do all of the following:

Formalize the conclusion of an executive board or team
Provide an opportunity for reflection and re-evaluation
Share goals and successes
Prepare new executive board for their roles on the team
Reduce confusion and delay of regular programming
Introduce your advisor (if not an active participant in the organization)

What should be included?

Past events and program notes
- Could include vendor contact information
- Timeline for planning process (Event Authorization submission, space request process, etc.)
Past budget and financial statements
- Could include process for the Annual Allocations process through Student Government (if applicable)
Transition binders and worksheets
Important usernames and passwords
Combinations to padlocks on any student organization storage units

What is the process?

All officers complete a transition document prior to scheduled election time
- Even if officers are planning to return, it is still recommended these are completed to prepare for resignation or removal at any time
One-on-one meetings scheduled between outgoing and incoming officers
Distribute transition manual to new officer
Update officers on the Student Organization Database
Update Tenant Information if you hold an organization office and/or storage unit
