Gradescope Considerations

Is Your Course the Right Fit?

All ISU instructors can use Gradescope. However, some courses might be a better fit than others. Read Gradescope Overview first. Next, answer these questions:

1. Do I have a large enrollment course?
2. Do I need to quickly grade student work, especially as they submit hand-written solutions, diagrams, charts and coding assignments?
3. Does my subject matter touch on STEM-based concepts?
4. Do I administer frequent formative assessments?
5. Do I use bubble-sheet exams with only multiple-choice and no other question types?
6. Are Classic and/or New Quizzes in Canvas insufficient for my assessment needs?

If you answer 4 or more questions in the affirmative, you may be interested in using Gradescope in your course.

Considerations Checklist

If you decide to use Gradescope in your course, please be sure to complete the following:

- Read through this Canvas resource and become familiar with the basics of Canvas. If you need more training see these resources:
- Fill out this form to let us know you will participate in the pilot.
- Choose one or several assessments that you will administer via Gradescope.
- Design your Gradescope assignments as low-stakes assessments.
- Prepare a sample 0-point Gradescope assignment to administer to your students so they can become comfortable with this new technology.
- Add the Gradescope statement to your syllabus and ensure your students know where to receive assistance.
