INTRODUCTION

The SHOP has additional duties that require volunteers during non-opening hours. If the opening hours don't suit your schedule, we encourage you to sign up for a delivery shift. These shifts help us maintain full, organized shelves. We will periodically send out sign-up sheets for delivery shifts.

DELIVERY SHIFT

This shift will be different from SHOP open hours shifts. Please refer to the "Deliveries" tab in the SignUp Genius, link here: Iowa State SHOP: SHOP Deliveries 2025/2026. SHOP orders food from the Food Bank of Iowa, and delivery hours are different each day. If you sign up to be part of the delivery crew, stay alert for the specific delivery hours the day before your shift. We encourage different groups and organizations on the campus to sign up to help during these hours so you won't be alone. Here are some delivery overviews.

Arrive at the SHOP 5-10 minutes before the delivery is scheduled to arrive.
Check in with the SHOP Operations Manager GA.
Clock in (Refer to Module I, Part A).
Use carts in SHOP to wheel items back and forth from the dock.
Stock shelves and cooling units. Put frozen and refrigerated food away first.
Break down all boxes and bring them back to the loading dock.
Let the Operations Manager GA know as you are leaving.

Safe Lifting During Deliveries

SHOP's deliveries often include large boxes of food, and it is important to use safe lifting practices when helping with deliveries. Please watch the Safe Lifting video produced by the University of California to review safe lifting technique: Safe Lifting: Low Lift & Transfer 09/25/18. A lifting/back safety sheet from ISU Environmental Health and Safety is below as well.
