New Faculty Orientation 2020

Welcome to Iowa State University! Review a brief message from Senior Vice President and Provost Jonathan Wickert.

Course Goals and Activities

Our goal is to enact an approach to orientation and onboarding that promotes equity across academic appointments and provides clear information about how to successfully perform your position responsibilities (Kezar & Maxey, 2015).  We sponsor activities designed to support your diverse backgrounds, needs, and goals so that you may begin laying the groundwork for a long, satisfying career at Iowa State.

Our aim is to cultivate a shared understanding about institutional mission and culture. We will introduce you to important policies, programs, and information that support your success. You will be connected with key administrators, faculty, and staff and provided resources to facilitate your transition to you new role at ISU.

We also invite you to network with other new faculty and build a sense of belonging. In promoting collegiality, we wish to promote a greater sense of community in which each faculty member's contributions and strengths are respected and that  greater engagement in governance, collaboration, and idea sharing is cultivated. Collegiality is viewed as a "core component of the faculty work experience" (Kezar & Maxey, 2015, p. 37). The Faculty Success Team will use an online discussion group to engage with you and will moderate these conversations. We encourage you to participate in these online groups, engage with your new faculty colleagues, raise questions, and listen to advice.
